Other Transfer Credit Information
You may be able to receive credit for military education for study you completed at service schools or in your Military Occupational Specialty.
If you've taken college classes previously, you may be able to transfer them to your program at UMGC. You can apply up to 70 credits from two-year schools and community colleges and up to 90 credits from four-year colleges and universities to your bachelor's degree at UMGC as long as you earned at least a C in the classes, the classes apply to your UMGC degree plan, and the classes do not duplicate others for which credit has been awarded.
Our Community College Alliance Program gives you the peace of mind that all of your credits from alliance programs and schools will transfer directly to UMGC. We have alliances with more than 90 community and technical colleges nationwide, including all 16 Maryland community colleges, helping you quickly and easily transfer credits for previous college coursework.
You may also be able to transfer up to 12 credits toward a master's degree or up to 6 credits toward a graduate certificate. Please note: Not all UMGC graduate programs accept transfer credits.
If you have taken certain professional courses and passed certain industry-standard certification exams, you can receive credit for professional courses and certifications at UMGC.
You can receive credit for professional courses if they apply to your curriculum and have been evaluated by either the American Council on Education (if the courses are listed in The National Guide to Educational Credit for Training Programs) or the National College Credit Recommendation Service.
We accept a wide range of certifications in information technology and computer science-related fields for credit, too.
You may be able to receive up to 21 elective credits for vocational and technical training you've earned from approved institutions and organizations evaluated by the American Council on Education. This credit may be applied toward a certificate or degree at UMGC.
You can receive credits toward your associate's degree (for military and veteran students) or bachelor's degree through credit by exam. Examples of examinations include the Excelsior College Examinations, the Advanced Placement examinations administered by the College Board, the College-Level Examination Program, Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support examinations, and the American College Testing/Proficiency Examination program.
You can seamlessly transfer credits between UMGC's divisions in the United States, Europe, and Asia. If you're starting out as a first-time student overseas, check out information about transferring credits for the first time to UMGC Asia and UMGC Europe.
