Earn Credit for Industry Certifications
& Professional Courses

Â鶹ÐÔ°®µçÓ° of Maryland Global Campus respects the knowledge you’ve built and skills you’ve developed throughout your career. Throughout your professional journey, we know you’ve had to take new courses, pass an exam covering important software knowledge or the latest business practices, or brush up on your expertise by earning respected credentials and certifications. To recognize this experience and to help you move forward in your journey toward a degree, UMGC will award college credit for many industry-standard certifications, credentials, and professional courses for college credit. By earning credits for your experience, you may be able to save time and money while fulfilling course requirements that can be applied to undergraduate certificates, bachelor’s degrees, and in some cases where eligible, master’s degrees and graduate certificates.

We offer credit for certifications in a variety of fields, including accounting, business, cybersecurity, emergency management, HR, IT, project management, and more! You may be able to earn credit for popular technical certifications like CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+, and Microsoft Office Specialist; business certifications like PMP, SHRM-CP, and SHRM-SCP; and more. To be considered for credit, industry certifications must be active and/or certified for a valid timeframe. Please review our instructions on how to send records/transcripts of your industry certification(s) to UMGC.

Submit a Request for Credit

If you have one or more of these certifications, you must submit official documentation from the certifying organization (such as a certificate, verification code, or letter) which includes your name, the title of the certification, and the date(s) of the certification. Send this documentation to studentrecords@umgc.edu after you apply to UMGC.

Upon receipt, UMGC will assess whether the certification can be applied to your program (based on all other sources of credit you earn) and, if so, how it will be applied (major coursework, elective, or other). If UMGC does not receive the appropriate documentation, we will not be able to evaluate credit and its applicability to your degree or certificate program.
