One example is鈥疷.S. Air Force veteran Paul Chilcote.鈥疕e鈥痡oined鈥痶he鈥疉ir Force in 2009 as a fighter aircraft crew chief, where his interests in computers and electronics helped him quickly learn the complex electrical systems that enable aircrafts鈥痶o fly.鈥疌hilcote鈥痩ater鈥痵eized鈥痑n opportunity to retrain as a cyberwarfare operator. Use the Soft Skills You鈥檝e Learned to Start a鈥疦ew鈥疌areer鈥

If you鈥痺ant to pursue a different career path than what you followed in the military,鈥痶he unique skills that you learned while鈥痮n active-duty are鈥痵ought after in the civilian workplace.鈥赌疎laine Harris, a鈥20-year Air Force Security Forces veteran, initially thought she wanted to stay in the law enforcement arena.鈥疕owever,鈥痵he decided instead to earn鈥痑n鈥MBA鈥痑nd a鈥痝raduate certificate in Leadership and Management鈥痶o help her son鈥攁lso a UMGC student鈥攕tart his own business.鈥犅
